Just got samsung kies mini and it say I need to update. In the terms and conditions it tells me I need to backup my files so i dont accidentally loose them. is that necessary?

Only recently have I discovered it takes hours on end to send a picture. I receive pictures well on time. But, when I try to send them my phone just keeps saying "sending" I do have the capability to send/receive photos.
