    T.V. tuner with cable.?

    If I plug a coax cable from the wall to my 1080p T.V./monitor i only get a 480i quality. If I purchase a 1080p compatible T.V. tuner, and plug the coax cable into it will it be able to get 1080i, or does my school need to purchase HD from the cable company?
