hi i just bought this ford ranger and every time i start it up it idles around 3500 - 4000 rpms for about 30 seconds. why does this do that and is it bad for the motor?

i haven't drove the car in over a year. when i took it out today it din't go faster than 40 mph and not over 3500 rpm with the gas petal to the floor. shifted gears fine. the engine code that came up was PO442 EVAP anyone know what things could cause this other than a gas cap?
