when i got my computer when i adjusted the volume by using the same button as f8 and f9 and f7 to mute/unmute, a big grey icon would pop up in the middle of my screen showing were my volume was at, (kinda like when u adjust your brightness sometimes) and now all of a sudden it doesn't pop up...
