Will the Honda CX500 engine run properly if I take the airbox off the bike?

I've seen a few bobbers with the airboxes taken out and the electrical moved so that the spot in the frame where the airbox sets is all empty and clean lookin. I'm assuming that it would run fine with maybe an adjustment to the carbs so it doesnt run lean with the airbox off? What do ya think?
