can i put a new transmission in my 1988 ford taurus? its got a 3.0 v6 and a 3 speed automatic transmission and i hope to put a 5 or 6 speed in it. so can i put a new tranny in it and what one should i get(recommendations would be nice to)

just a stock 88 taurus with a 3.0 v6 wandering about the top speed of it? and what type of 5/6 speed tranny can i put in it?
