I heard people put their car in 1st gear when they park before the engine is off. Does it matter? Can I put it in 1st gear after the engine is off?

I wanted to sync my contacts with my pc so I can edit them and back them up to the computer. However I cant find a program that let me do that. Can someone please advise me some programs that might allow me to do that. thanks
