Just personal preference I guess, also why donate to a tracker you do not know will be some where you will use regulary? Not saying its wrong or right to donate to get into a tracker but it personal choice of the tracker and person donating.

You don't change the extension to .midi, you change the extension to .MID. Also make sure it is in capital letters. The sound quality comes out better when the extension is changed to .MID.
