    Scales. Play the root, leap an octave, play the root, leap at 9th, etc. You can do chords, single notes, octaves, whatever you need.

    Is it okay to use humor in an academic paper?

    I want to say "So barring time travel, Person X could not possibly be of the line of Person Y." This would be the only 'cute' moment in the paper. Is that acceptable?
