I've always thought that using the takings was a wrong way to gauge how popular a film is. As we all know prices go up. So surely the only way is to count bums on seats. I'm sure I read/heard somewhere that still to this day Gone With The Wind had the largest cinema audiences of any film ever...

Much as I like Kate Winslet, I thought Titanic was a film where the special effects overshadowed all the actors. Kate was excellent in a film by Peter Jackson called Heavenly Creatures as well.
