You don't have to know someone personally to be a fan. And being a fan typically means that you care when the person you are a fan of dies. Especially when they die so suddenly, in the prime of their life. And when they've just given what's being called the best performance of their career but...

It does start to make more sense the more times you watch it, believe me :D
