I'd get The Decline of British Sea Power it's better. I don't really know how to describe them. They get compared to Joy Division alot but I think they're more like a synthesizer heavy version of the National.

How are those unrelated? I think I like De-loused the best. Loused > Bedlam > Frances > Amputechture > Octahedron I don't know, but there are clear jumps between Relationship of Command, De-Loused, and Bedlam.

yeah but that was when it was first came out. MTV usually plays commercial artists and hits like Best of You for a few weeks after they're released and then they'll stop. I don't know what kind of people watch MTV regularly but I imagine not too many of them actually watch it for the music.

There are tons of great banRAB from the 80's, you just have to dig a little. As Janszoon says, there is good in every era.
