Pre-BSSM is funk rock. BSSM is funk rock, but it's more well rounded with alternative influences. One Hot Minute is most definitely alternative, especially with Dave Navarro's guitarwork. Californication is up for debate. By the Way is more poppy, but it still has some alternative sounding...
