I think by useable he meant that it was zenon instead of LED, zenon being the same type of flash as normal cameras use. Therefore it would be useful enough to actually be on the same level as normal cameras in dark situations.

No, Wii uses a new connector that has both audio and video. The Gamecube component cable is just for video.
