It's compiled from box office admissions, so it's the 100 most popular films, not the best. That explains why the list consists entirely of British and American films, otherwise a "best-of" list would have scores of foreign films, from the likes of Bergman, Truffaut, Cocteau, Godard, Bunuel...

Haven't seen the film and don't intend to. I read the book many years ago and thought it to be a very clever idea and I had a feeling that it wouldn't be particularly filmable. To me, there are some books that rely on the reader to imagine and interpret and consequently do not translate well...
