I wouldn't read up on it. Just think about Lynch's clues and work it out for yourself. And I agree with pj68 that it does get better each time you watch it once you've got a realisation as to what's going on. There's so much detail in it.

they weren't morally bankrupt - it was the mosta accurate depiction of the way people behave ive seen in a long time. and jude was v good - he was playing a really unsympathetic character and he did it brilliantly

That's quite a good point. Often you don't realise a film is a remake so you see it as an original film and like it. If later you realise it's a remake, how do you react? I remember watching Thomas Crown with Brosnan and thinking it was an excellent film. I knew it was a remake but hadn't seen...
