Where I live there are tons of cyclists. It seems like all of them are wear jerseys and other bike apparel even though they are not competing in a race. Doesn't it get hot for them? Why don't they just wear regular clothes? Why does virtually everyone wear them?

Probably basketball and swimming. In swimming, you move your whole body, pushing your arms and legs and moving your body up and down. In basketball, you run a lot and your arms move a lot too. Resulting in your whole body moving, too.
