I wonder how much (if any) of the "middle man" Apple gets to cut out of the update cycle. Is it Apple releases an update direct to customers via iTunes, or will it be the usual "phone manufacturer releases update to carrier, who may or may not release it to the customer".

what i meant was.. there is many things to consider.. just adding onto your post. well you need to know what your needs are. for you it was reception and roll over minutes.. and to this guy.. it may be some functions.. reception again.. and other things.. he has to determine what he needs first.

What are the chances they will keep calls from the US to other US #rs free? I don't mind paying to other countries but I really don't want to start paying for free calls to the US. Not when I'm paying for other phones that will do that already.

samsung d600 is a great choice. its available for around 230 if you shop around. the sony ericsson walkman w810i is a great alternative to the samsung also. and its cheaper too, at 99.99 with a 2 year plan through cingular.
