Probably Muse. While I still like them a lot, they got me interested in music that was not mainstream, really opened my eyes to the whole trove of music that I never even heard about, much less ignored.

Ravi Shankar - India's Master Musician. Not a rock/metal album, but it's still great and influenced at least one of the greatest rock musicians ever.

Hmm... scary thought, but all we can do is hope for the best and help support the industry as much as our poor wallets can handle.
