My buddy bought his phone off of the internet so he wouldn't have to pay for the data plan, which I am paying for. I poped my sim card into his phone activated it and he is good to go. He can yuse everything on wifi.

Yeah it all depends on usuage really. Not to mention what apps you have running. I'd say a day to day and a half of moderate usuage is pretty standard on all newer phones. as for a specific model with best battery. I'm not sure i've ever seen any real life comparisons.
