    Being famous doesn't make you the creator of something. The Sonics were actually far more loud and abrassive sounding than The Who before The Who existed which means hard rock in some form before The Who. That should tell you that The Who didn't invent the genre.

    Also, for all Canucks versed in indie: Jim Guthrie (Ten Thousand Songs vs. Now More than Ever) Essentially he went from using Playstation and other samples in his music to electric guitars, strings and pop melodies.
