For two 8mile hikes in Gatlinburg, TN, would a good pair of Merrel(sp?) hiking shoes be good enough?

Next week I am going hiking in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It'll be on marked trails...one hike is 5 miles, the other is 2 miles. What kind of clothes should I wear? I know to have good hiking shoes, but when it comes to shirts, pants(or shorts?), etc, I'm clueless. Any help is appreciated!
