There's no setting for turning the keypad lights off completely. The only thing you can do is change their brightness by adjusting the 'light sensor' slider in the display settings.

Thank you I was surprised how slow mine did as well, I assumed it was due to having low internet signal as I was far from my router or the fact that my laptop was close by downloading stuff as well. But I think it's normal now.
