I totally agree. I was distraught when I found that I would need to switch to Verizon in the foreseeable future. I am a huge GSM fan and do not like CDMA (much for the same reasons as you). The freedom of GSM is awesome... and you just do not seem to get that with CDMA. At least with Android...
