I agree it is dangerous. But I also think that loud pipes have the same effect. Loud pipes, as in Harley straight pipes.

I have used the Tech Spec snakeskin on past 2 bikes, they work good but on the 848/1098/1198 you need to place them farther back on the tank, closer to your body to work well. And your knees need to be high up enough in the tank for them to work well.
