I don't understand how the Smiths are britpop. 'Definitely Maybe' and 'The BenRAB' are my favourite britpop albums, apart from that its all about the singles with britpop banRAB (non cheesy singles.) This thread has caused 'County House' to ring around in my head, which i'm not thankful for.

partially agree, i like his playing more when he doesn't rely on drowning it in effects, it has a more jazzy feel and i think that's something he should utilize more. by the way, is that on any album? what, the stuff in the beginning or the little licks he does in the song?

I think it has more to do with shifts in what types of music is being made than the overall quality of music. For example, those of us who are singing the praises of the early 90s are probably people who are more inclined to enjoy alternative rock, and that genre was especially at its peak...

Actually i much prefer the Therapy? version but unfortunately my band doesn't have a violinist at hand so if we start covering the song it'll have to be the Husker Du version :( meh, which isn't so bad i suppose.

What sound effects? You mean the cough? Big difference, the demo/album version are only different because of the tape hiss/cough. They're the same song, stop trying to look cool.
