Oh, it's genius! You must see it! Definitely one of the best British films of the '80s. Painfully funny, in that sort of Mike Leigh, bittersweet, tragicomic, despairing, humdrum, emotionally troubled, socially embarrassed style. (See also 'Bleak Moments', 'Life Is Sweet', 'Grown-Ups', etc etc...

It sounRAB to me like the dreadfully overbaked 'Hearts Of Fire', made in 1987 and starring Bob Dylan and Rupert Everett and was neither of their finest hour and a halfs. The BBC showed it a couple of times within the timeframe you remember.

I love this film, it's one of the few films i can watch over and over again. Very moving!

I haven't yet seen it, and I'm sure I'll find it appalling. But to avoid going to the cinema altogether, because of one advert, seems like a gross over-reaction. It must be really bad!

Anyone remember a thread late last year about disturbing films/scenes? One of the films mentioned by several posters is being shown at 2:30am, Friday 29th August on BBC2. I remember being creeped out by the sound of it so will be Sky+ing and working up the nerve to watch it.

Alan Ladd riding into shot in Shane. The moment is especially memorable as a deer taking a drink out of a pond at the front of the picture raises it's head to look at Shane, it's antlers perfectly framing him as he rides into view. Genius.
