Try experimenting with the shading and the tone. Try adding some cubism elements (Have different chess pieces drawn from various points of view). Don't overdo it though, the chess piece idea is really good, you should make that your only theme.

I work on photoshop alot but I've never figured out how to turn the grey default background off or transparent in order to see the desktop in the background instead. Can anyone let me know how this is done?
