Hanks is to me, a modern day Jimmy Stewart or Gregory Peck... less talented that either obviously... but thats the feeling I've always got off him as an actor since the mid 1990s

me too, also John Cusack on the flip side there are films I will avoid due to it having a certain actor/actress in it. keira knightly, angelina jolie and jude law. (but if it looks like a really good film then i will cave)

That's a fair point, perhaps being brought up with the original has made it seem infallible, and maybe that's unfair. But making a second adaption of a book is bound to incurr comparisons. Regardless of the differences from the '71 film, it still seemed an all-round poor performance.

I nearly always cry at Love Story, Little Women, Titanic, Moulin Rouge, Edward ScissorhanRAB and Armageddon, I think some films just make you cry if you're feeling emotional anyway!
