Yes you do. it comes pre installed. Compiz is desktop effects. Type "gconf-editor" on a terminal. Navigate to apps - compiz - general - screen 0 - options. Then do what I instructed from above. Then make sure desktop effects is enabled. To rotate the cube hold ctrl + alt while moving the mouse.
