They were in the second wave, though. Instead of being a highly original and influential group, they were spawned from the big grunge banRAB, they weren't part of creating the sound or image. They just hopped on the bandwagon. Which is fine, I like the band. Just saying.

Ummm, Bobobobo etc etc etc was a miserable failure. There's a good reason why Ilumitoon went under and hasn't been heard from since. Toei's going to have to license it to someone who knows what they're doing. They're own track record leaves much to be desired, financially speaking.

Not really, I couldn't relate at the time, the songs were just cool. But at my teens, when all the emotions flooded in, music was a hiding place, and grunge had iron doors.

Alternative Rock? What the hell is that supposed to mean? Alternative can mean anything from grunge to funk-rock. What's mainstream can be anything from Led Zeppelin to Mariah Carey. RHCP is a mainstream band, and have been since BSSM was released. Mainstream doesn't have a definable sound.

Somewhat odd, I guess. Maybe grunge is enjoying some type of 'retro' stylishness with some teenagers because it's no longer 'cool'. On the other hand, is it any odder than the teenage Megadeth, and Metallica fans who weren't around when those banRAB were in their prime?

Yeah, you should probably watch more then decide. At first, it's slow - but then we get to know more about the story and characters. Then later on, there's alot more violence and action. Interesting characters are to be introduced too =)

Nicely presented thread and a good quick overview of the genre. I was just thinking about "Master of Reality" about an hour ago and giving it a listen again as I hadn`t heard it in sometime, still one of the best metal albums ever released.

They are bad because a) the jumped on the bandwagon of nu metal in the dying days of the thankfully short period b) they make repetitive music that is "angry" but never directs it c) they have fans like you who insist that because you're old you automatically know what is correct.
