The engine isn't running, so that rules out the alternator. The fuel pump is most likely in the tank, so it would be coming from the back if that's it. Question: does it start up again as soon as you reconnect the battery? Or does disconnecting the battery "reset" it, and it doesn't start...

The best thing to do is just go ahead and work your ass off..then rejoice once it is done. I do not know the workload you have on you now, but that is my outlook on most things. Also, if you are overworked then you should look into a vacation or something just to keep you right-minded.
