I can't stay connected to any WLAN for more than a minute or two... I know the signal is good, because for one network the AP is feet away. It disconnects and for about 30seconds will not re-detect the AP, then everything starts over

it is indeed an E, so you must be getting Edge. When you're not, it reverts to a simple little antenna.

Sprint is CDMA, like Verizon. They both use EV-DO, which is currently in more places than the Cingular 3G network and runs at close to broadband speeds. Both Sprint and Verizon would probably run about the same speed, but I am not an expert.
