Yeah it could work but there's absolutely no need for it. Gladiator is a movie designed to stand on it's own. The beginning of the movie shows Maximus commanding an army, nothing more is needed. And the fact that he would look older in a prequel couldn't be avoided.

I too bought this on dvd just recently and got round to watching it last night. Very good film, easily one of the best sports film of recent years. Very Highly Recommended :)

CGI did kill I Am Legend for me more than the diversion from the real storyline of the book. I mean the bad guys were fake looking. Seeing them made the movie look really fake and lame. They could not be taken in a serious manner, there was NO feeling of danger from them through them being made...
