Pablo Honey to me is laden with grunge and American college rock influences. Thom Yorke has said REM, Pixies and Nirvana were big influences on the band at the time and i think it shows. It doesnt sound very British at all to me.

You need to pick up the right album too. I`d say at least 60% of Sonic Youths output is unlistenable crap.

so...because they don't have a cultural foundation for them, we're not allowed to count them? I don't think thats fair. If you play less genres of music, as a country, your talent pool is focused. If you produce double the genres another country does, doesn't that dilute individual pools?

And the best part is that another album is in the works and they just released a new track :)

I have definitely noticed that there's some characteristic element of Mastodon's sound that seems to be missing on that album. I don't find it boring per se, but I think I feel ya' on this one.
