    every band and every person writes differently. some of my mates write music and then we get together and write lyrics. but when i write lyrics i get the melody in my head and kinda know what i want to go with it.

    Yup. Just as many sub genres as Metal and most are just there for the sake of it. Some are fairly easy to relate to though. House music has elements of Disco, Funk and Soul and Trance is more about the BPM and the obligatory Arabient breakdown and Experimental is a ridiculously huge urabrella...
