It works great and very simple. Choose the file or DVD. Choose the output size and destination and let it work. Then I just quick install the results to the card. I use TCPMP to view on the TX. It is so easy I would say you are trying to make it harder than what it is. I did the same thing...

Do you peck with the stylus or scribble/write out letters? For Palm users, do you use the stylus and onscreen keyboard, and peck at the letters, or do you write them out with some grafitti program? Which do you prefer? Which is faster? Which is more accurate?

Some stuff is easier in animation then in live action. In animation you can have a computer randomize movement of background characters (you can get away with very low detial with very simple/repeditive animation for the extras while still making it look good if the focus is on the foreground)...

A cartoon geared strictly towards kids wouldn't fly at night, especially in a prime time slot, and then there's the fact that a lot of kids are typically in bed at around 9 or so, so there would be no point in airing any strickly kid friendly programming beyond that point.
