I would say a Viper is more expensive to maintain. Corvettes are generally much cheaper depending on year and condition. I wouldn't put a Viper in the same category as a Ferrari, but definitely not a cheap car to own.

You pretty much got all the basics down. After that you could go with some ECU tuning and a new suspension setup. If you get into more serious modding you could look into driveline and brake upgrades.

I wouldn't recommend it if you can't even find them. You wouldn't pay too much to get it done right at a shop. Better than risking your engine because you did it wrong. Good luck!

Get a second opinion from a different mechanic. The computer isn't the first thing I would check with a bad battery and alternator. It could be many other (much cheaper) problems.
