I agree with Sara. You do need more tetras as they are schooling fish. Rams are actually a good choice as they are semi aggressive and quite pretty fish. cichlids, yes, but not that bad. I wouldn't do angelfish. Actually a nice large chool of black tetras or the lemons would look good too.

This is because it's an un filtered tank. with him making bubbles for a nest and water being still, it builds up. Try a partial water change, a small one, in between your regular ones. Or get a small air pump and sponge filter.

You have to tell us a bit more...like how were they housed? size tank, did you do water changes, things like that. Th losing scales sunds more like wounds then a disease.
