    how can i tell the difference between a male and a female platy fish?

    The anal fin on the male is apparently fused to its body as it's used for fertilisation. Having said that, I have some and I think it's pretty hard to tell the difference!

    Why do my tropical fish swim up and down the tank?

    I've got quite a new tank, had a few casualties, hopefully on the mend now. Just wondering why my Platys and Tetras sometimes swim up and down the tank (ie surface to gravel and back) repeatedly and quickly. Is that happy behaviour or stress?
