I dont believe ford transmissions use "range sensors" an automatic transmission operates on preasure and releaf valves, in the valve body,,, if you are speaking of the range SELECTOR ,?? it is either located on the steering column, or the console,, good luck,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

sounds like sending unit problems,,, could be as simple as a loose connection,,,, which is much better than the sending unit itself!!!!!!!!!!! good luck,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
