I have found it to be more solid than any other phone I've owned. Unless you're throwing it at cement walls or doing something equally stupid that it really isn't intended for, I don't see how or why you would break it.

Get like a Sony Ericsson K750. Not a lot of common people have it but it was quite popular before. It has a solid feature set and the price makes it the best phone I can think of if you're on a budget.

Well, Actually the IE version is even better, as you have the same player and extras of ME version. but unlike with the ME, with IE you can close the music player to free up ram. Also with the IE you can set the multimedia button to open whatever app you want, with ME it's locked to the music...
