I would suggest you determine which carrier has the best service and pricing in your area. Then you can narrow your options to what that carrier offers in phones. All the carriers have something you mention - Pearl, Q, Blackjack, etc. And all of those phones will do what you are wanting...

Doesn't work on N73, it downloads the clip and then RealPlayer opens and says unable to play. Altho I've never managed to play an mp4 file in RP before so not sure who's fault it is.

You can also just get a moible which has a LED light to indicate if there was en event on your phone. This way you don't need to look at the screen unless there is something noticeable.
