    Is sexual abuse another way of saying rape?

    My girlfriend of 3 years told me earlier that she had been abused sexually. I didn't want to ask her to go into detail cause she was already in tears. Is it actual rape or does it just mean touching? If it is rape, should she be calling herself a virgin? Thanks in advance..
