Alright, I got a book called "How to paint like the old masters" one of my favorite artists suggested it. Inside it says to use rabbit skin glue on your support (canvas, wood, metal panel, etc) to size it. I have already purchased Gesso but I know this is used over the top of the sizing agent...

...prepare them? I found one book called "The Oil Painting Book: Techniques and Materials for Today's Artists" but it just kind of touches on the different supports and how to prepare them, its not really a step by step guide like I'm wanting. I would like it to include preparing metal surfaces...
