    Is there any music much older than rock and metal that uses unclean vocal techniques?

    I'm curious, were screaming, death growls, and other unclean vocal techniques invented completely by rock and roll/metal musicians or are there other forms of music somewhere in the world that are much older that use these techniques as well?
