    Sony NEX-3 help with focus ring?

    Ive recently purchased the Sony NEX-3 with the 16mm and 18-55mm lenses, on the front of the lenses there is a "focus ring" but it doesnt seem to do anything (it doesnt change the focus) any ideas... eg. it may have to be in a certain mode to use or whatever? Thanks where is the manual focus mode?
