i have to hold the gas peddle down and turn it over 3 or 4 times before it starts,every time i start it.how do i go about fixing this problem.

Low coolant for sure. The thermostat once engine has reached it temp. will not go cold for short times. only if it is stuck open and you are on the highway at speed for time long enough to cool the coolant off a lot.
