From what you say..Its a flip of the coin choice. Both bikes are excellent. Very durable and easy to work on should they ever need it.Basically its a matter of eye appeal.

If its running well and looks ok it sounds like a good deal.

Check the float level first... While float bowl is off pull the main and pilot jets they could be partly clogged. Dont forget a new fuel filter.

You need a new clutch cable. Have it adjusted

What type of upgrade? Performance wise Put a header on it. rejet 2 steps up on mains.

It sounds like not enough fuel pilot jets which are for start/idle circuit. Are you sure they are not plugged? Was the float level changed? Id leave needle valvee all stock position.Also try carb synchronizers.
