I have a 1986 Pontiac Fiero 2m4 that has been smoking uncontrollably. I have some experience with cars and I know its not the head gasket but I don't know exactly what the problem is but anyone with more experience then I have, please give me some advice..

I have an 86 Fiero 2M4 that is running way too rich. Every time i start it up it blows clouds of smoke out the exhaust but but other than the smoke the engine is immaculate. I was wondering if anybody knew how to make the engine run less rich, I'm a body guy so anyone with any bit of expertise...
